Lebanese Communist Party highlights spirit of resistance

Lebanon is facing brutal aggression from Israel, which is bombing and occupying territories in the south of the country . How does the LCP view these developments ?

The issue of the Lebanese-Zionist conflict is an old one, dating back to 1948. Lebanon has faced successive periods of Israeli occupation since then. The southern fields were already occupied even before the latest escalation.

Zionist aggression against our people is nothing new, and the LCP, the founding party of the popular resistance, calls on all worthy Lebanese to confront the occupier. Today there are different ways to defend our territory, not only with armed resistance, but also with demonstrations and raising awareness among international public opinion. What is happening is very serious: Israel shows no respect whatsoever for international law.

We see the daily destruction of all the villages in southern Lebanon. It's terrible, I've never seen anything like it. It can only be compared to what fascism did in Europe. When Hitler entered France, naturally, there was resistance. That's what we do and what we urge the Lebanese people to do.

What should be done in the face of Israel's policy, which systematically violates international law?

Israel is doing this in an increasingly aggressive and brazen manner. We appeal to European countries and peoples to open their eyes and support all oppressed peoples in the world, in the Middle East, in Europe, in Africa or in America. But, unfortunately, we see no light at the end of the tunnel. Increasingly, the media controlled by the mainstream media are spreading the idea that, in Lebanon, the resistance fighters are “terrorists” and in Ukraine, for example, they are “freedom fighters.” This is not true.

Since 1948 we have resisted oppression and a genocide unparalleled in the last 30 or 40 years. This is what is happening in Palestine and southern Lebanon.

What is the LCP's assessment of the current political situation in the country?

Although the country is considered democratic, in practice it is not. Elections are conducted in such a way that the same sectarian and religious parties return to power. The same parties that always have the political strength to keep their interests above those of the country. It has always been a difficult situation, but it worsened after the fall of the Syrian regime, because a layer of politicians subservient to imperialism arrived in Lebanon, supported by reactionary Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Gulf countries, and by the USA.

All the progress that the resistance might make to halt the Israeli military advance is jeopardized by political defeats at the hands of these forces. We see this, for example, when a ceasefire has already been signed twice that Israel has not respected.

What future prospects does he offer to his people, and what are his current political priorities?

We are a resilient people because we have always faced occupation and have always had a duty to defend ourselves. The future of our people is to resist and take our rights into our own hands. To resist and have patience, because in the end, the one who wins is the one who continues to believe in the struggle. As we have always done and will continue to do.
