The Evros Organizations of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) organized a rally and march in Alexandroupoli to protest against the presence and activities of fascist groups in the city centre.

The demonstrators stressed that the nationalism promoted by the fascist groups that have emerged in the city bears no relation to the genuine love of the homeland felt by the working people, who in the past fought as partisans against foreign fascist occupation, endured imprisonment and exile, and struggled against the exploitation of man by man. Patriotism means fighting so that the people may live better lives, with rights and dignity. It means refusing to become either a victim of war or a killer of other peoples in the service of foreign interests. It means fighting for the overthrow of the capitalist system of war and oppression.
The protesters also highlighted that the emergence of fascist groups in a city like Alexandroupoli is no coincidence. In recent years, the city in the northeast of Greece has become a vast NATO base, used for the transport of military equipment through its port, airport, and road and rail networks, and has been transformed into both a launching pad for war and a target for retaliation. This development has been consistently opposed by KKE and KNE.
