Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets to defend the right to vote against election frauds in the recent presidential election.

The Communist Party of Peru (Patria Roja) also participated in the rally that took place on 19 June in Lima. The participants condemned the frauds made by supporters of Fujimori.
Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, daughter of Alberto Fujimori, holds a razor-thin lead over leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez at the June 7 runoff election. Fujimori has 50.11% of the valid votes compared to Sánchez's 49.89%.
Sánchez's party filed legal appeals to void certain votes in Fujimori strongholds and refused to concede. Sánchez subsequently called for public mobilizations and led protests in Lima to demand transparency. Because the margin is incredibly tight, Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes and National Jury of Elections have been tasked with a lengthy review of thousands of challenged ballots.
