El Machete, the central organ of the Communist Party of Mexico, has published an article about forced disappearances of political figures.
El Machete takes on enforced disappearances recalling Enrique López
The article begins with drawing importance to speak of enforced disappearance in Mexico and around the world, as it is to speak of crimes against humanity perpetrated by the state to maintain terror and fear among the population.
“In our country, this crime has continued to be committed since the 1960s, when various organizations and collectives denounced enforced disappearances for political reasons against revolutionaries and political figures opposed to the regime.”
The article underlines that the responsibility for this crime falls on the state, as an instrument of domination that attempts to maintain its position through widespread violence, using its own repressive forces or paramilitary groups to carry it out, and remaining unpunished with the state's legal guarantee.
A connection is made between the history of Latin America and the Nazi Germany, where communist militants and opponents of the spread of fascist ideas were disappeared because they posed a threat to the perpetuation of the economic and political regime and its class dominance.
“This same tactic was employed by dictatorial governments in Latin America to silence and subdue popular organizations that resisted imperialism and military dictatorships. Examples include more than 20,000 disappeared people in Guatemala during the civil war, 60,000 disappeared people in Colombia, and 30,000 disappeared people in El Salvador.”
The current government is criticized for making false claims that these crimes are the work of previous administrations and that they are no longer committed under this government when, the statistics on missing people are constantly increasing.
"We could cite too many current examples of enforced disappearance for political reasons in our country, one of them was carried out against our party, since on July 18, 2015 in the state of Tamaulipas, Comrade Enrique López, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Mexico and mass leader, was detained and disappeared at his home by members of the armed forces."
