TKP announces International Anti-NATO Summit
The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) will host the International Anti-NATO Summit in Istanbul on Saturday, 4 July.
TKP had declared the week of July 4-12 as an "Anti-NATO Summit" due to the NATO summit taking place in Ankara that same week. TKP announced that it would be holding marches and events in various cities during this week, and would also be hosting an international meeting over the weekend.
The summit, to be held in Istanbul on Saturday, 4 July, will bring together representatives from communist and workers' parties of NATO member countries, as well as representatives from the World Peace Council and the World Federation of Democratic Youth.
The statement released by the Central Committee of TKP indicated that this summit would be a joint expression of an uncompromising stance against NATO's new plans.
According to the statement, this meeting, organized in opposition to the NATO Summit where dangerous plans for our country and the world's peoples are expected to be discussed, will bring together world communists to discuss NATO's anti-people policies in their own countries, current issues in the anti-imperialist struggle, and how to strengthen the common struggle against NATO, and to share their experiences.
It was announced that the outcomes of the meeting, to which the press will also be invited, are planned to be shared with the public simultaneously.
The statement from TKP said, "Thus, the aim is to reveal the true face of NATO to a wider audience, to strengthen anti-imperialist consciousness, and to send a strong warning against the increasing involvement of governments, both in our country and in other countries, in imperialist war plans."
Anti-NATO marches
TKP also announced that while a de facto state of emergency continues in Ankara ahead of the 36th NATO Summit, to be hosted by the capital on 7-8 July, and US President Donald Trump's visit to Turkey, it will be holding Anti-NATO marches in six cities across the country on 5 June.
In a statement made on social media, TKP said, “On 5 July, we are marching against NATO for our country and our honour! We invite all citizens who say 'I want to live in an independent country, I do not accept Turkey being surrendered to imperialism' to the marches we will hold in İstanbul, İzmir, Antalya, Adana, Çanakkale and Samsun.”
