The Union of Communist Youth of Brazil (UJC), youth organization of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) and the Socialist Youth Union (UJS), youth organisation of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) have strongly condemned the judicial attempt to intimidate and silence the student movement.
Youths of Communist Parties in Brazil denounce persecution of student movement
In a statement published on October 17, UJC denounced the judicial electoral investigation initiated by presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro on October 14 against the National Union of Students (UNE) and it's president Bianca Borges as well as several trade union confederations.
UJC states that the action exposes the far right’s fear of student and workers’ mobilization in support of President Lula’s re-election. Concluding the statement, UJC has pledged to intensify street demonstrations and voter-mobilization efforts, declaring that the struggle against fascism is a historical duty.
UJS national president Rafaela Elisiário declared that the organization would not be intimidated, warning that those seeking to silence young people had learned nothing from history. UNE president Bianca Borges similarly reaffirmed that the student movement would not be silenced and would continue defending democracy in the streets and online.
