Palestinian CP on recent developments in Palestine

The Central Committee of the Palestinian Communist Party held its regular meeting in the city of Ramallah on Sunday, 5 July 2026, with an agenda covering political developments at the Palestinian, regional, and international levels. 

The Central Committee affirmed that the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank are facing the most dangerous stage of the settler-colonial expansionist project since the occupation of 1967. Following a systematic policy of ethnic cleansing targeting both the Palestinian land and the Palestinian people, settler gangs, under the full protection of the Zionist occupation army, continue to carry out ongoing attacks against Palestinian villages and towns in the West Bank.

The Central Committee also warned about the escalation of attacks against the occupied city of Jerusalem and the attempts to Judaize the Islamic and Christian holy sites and alter the historical and religious identity of the city.

Regarding the Gaza Strip, the Central Committee expressed its absolute rejection of the so-called “Peace Council” initiated by US President Donald Trump. Like other political projects, this one will also eventually serve the objectives of the occupation, separating Gaza from its Palestinian national surroundings and imposing various forms of external guardianship.

The Committee stated the continuation of internal division as “the most serious challenge facing the Palestinian cause today.” It called for its immediate end and for the restoration of national unity on the basis of a national resistance program. Underlining the necessity of rebuilding Palestinian national legitimacy on democratic and popular foundations at this historic stage of the Palestinian cause, the Committee reiterated its support for holding elections for the Palestinian National Council. Requiring a genuine democratic environment that guarantees the participation of all Palestinian national, political, and social forces, such an electoral period will contribute to “reactivating and rebuilding the institutions of the Palestine Liberation Organization and strengthening its role as the unifying representative of the Palestinian people at home and in the diaspora.” The Committee emphasized that national elections must strengthen Palestinian unity rather than deepen division and added that genuine democracy is “based on political pluralism and respect for the right of all Palestinians to participate, away from any internal or external pressures and interventions.”
