This year’s International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, hosted by the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, concluded on August 8 with the closing session following two days of meetings.
24th IMCWP successfully concluded
The closing session of the meeting, which featured speeches and presentations by representatives of 49 communist and workers’ parties, was also attended by Miguel DĂaz-Canel BermĂşdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba.
In addition to DĂaz-Canel, the closing presidium included Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Secretary for Organization, and Bruno RodrĂguez Parrilla, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs. TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan also took part in the presidium.
The 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, at which numerous resolutions and a final document were adopted, concluded with a speech by Miguel DĂaz-Canel BermĂşdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba, on behalf of the host party.
“Marxism-Leninism remains fully valid”
DĂaz-Canel began his speech by thanking the delegations for having shown the courage and determination to come to Cuba amid such intense pressure and various difficulties, and said that “the island of Cuba, with its historical dignity and resistance, warmly welcomes them.”
The Cuban leader emphasized that the world is going through one of its most uncertain and dangerous periods, amid a “perfect storm” triggered by capitalism, which is being consumed by its own contradictions.
DĂaz-Canel pointed to the extreme concentration of wealth, inequalities, the destruction of the environment, and wars waged over markets, resources and spheres of influence as among the main elements of this storm.
Cuban President DĂaz-Canel said: “Marxism-Leninism remains fully valid insofar as it demonstrates that these crises are not accidental events, but the result of the laws of development of monopolistic and imperialist capitalism.”
“They are bringing the genocide in Gaza to Cuba”
Addressing the destruction caused by imperialism throughout the world, DĂaz-Canel said: “The genocide in Gaza and its shameful public display are not enough for them; they are trying to do the same in Cuba through an aggressive and criminal policy.”
DĂaz-Canel stressed that Cuba would never surrender to this aggression, which has continued for years and has recently gotten out of control, and that they would collectively and resolutely defend socialism and their independence. “Socialism is still the only realistic and humane way out in the face of capitalist barbarism,” he said.
Following the speech, which ended to applause from the delegates, all participants chanted “Cuba sĂ, yankee no”, and the 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties concluded with everyone singing “The Internationale” together.
