The US Department of Justice issued an arrest warrant for the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro on unlawful charges. Communist workers’ parties all around the world condemned this move as a further step in the imperialist aggression against Cuba.
Communist and Workers’ parties condemn indictment of Raúl Castro
In a statement, the Communist Party of Turkey said, “We see no need whatsoever to debate the falsity of these claims, which are nothing but the product of anti-communist hysteria manufactured by the U.S. Department of Justice. We categorically condemn this attempt in its entirety.
The leadership of the Cuban Revolution has withstood the harshest trials of history with dignity and has been vindicated by history itself. To attempt to place Raúl Castro—who has carried out the most critical responsibilities in this historic struggle and who holds an indelible place in the hearts and minds of the Cuban people as a hero of the revolution—on the defendants’ bench of such so-called courts is beyond the authority of anyone, least of all U.S. imperialism.
Communist Party of Turkey stands firmly against all attacks targeting Cuba and will continue to do so. We stand with the Cuban people and their revolutionary leadership.”
The Communist Party of Greece defined the move as provocative and said, “Overall, the developments show the permanent pursuit of American imperialism to strike by all means the Cuban revolution, which served as a point of reference and inspiration for all the peoples of the world for the overthrow of today's barbarity and the building of a new society, without the exploitation of man by man.
The silence of the Greek government and the other Euro-Atlanticist parties, who even pretend to "stand firm" for International Law, in the face of the provocative moves of the US and what they are preparing, is also provocative.
In these critical hours for the Cuban people, it is necessary to express popular condemnation against the criminal imperialist plans, against every attempt at military intervention against Cuba and persecution of Raúl Castro!”
In a statement, the Portuguese Communist Party declared, “This is yet another shameful manoeuvre promoted by the Trump Administration seeking to cover up the escalation of aggression and threats from the US against Cuba, which constitutes an affront to the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
A hypocritical and unacceptable manoeuvre that seeks to portray Cuba, which is exercising its legitimate self-defence, as the alleged "aggressor," and the organizations that are developing a destabilizing campaign against Cuba from the U.S. as alleged ‘victims.’"
The Communist Party of Mexico said, “In the context of the U.S. imperialist military threat against the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution, any counterrevolutionary act is part of this interventionist strategy. Therefore, Cuba’s friends, including communists, must express their militant solidarity—not only through words and statements.
In Mexico City, an event was called against the Cuban people, featuring the presentation of a documentary promoting the counterrevolutionary San Isidro movement. At a time of an energy blockade, military movements, and threats of intervention, this is something we cannot allow.”
The Communist Party of Britain called on all friends of Cuba to oppose the latest US attempt and said, “The US Department of Justice indictment against Raul Castro constitutes a further escalation in the economic and political warfare being waged by the US to overthrow socialist Cuba.
We call on the British government to join the peoples of the world in opposing the indictment of Raul Castro Ruiz the real purpose of which is to provide bogus ‘justification’ for the US threatened military intervention in Cuba.”
The Communist Party of Chile said, “Once more we express our solidartiy with the Cuban people and Raúl Castro Ruz. We will continue to be alert about the north American imperialism’s aggressive conducts that work against peace and global stability.”
The Communist Party of Argentina said, “Yankee imperialism, which today—as throughout its entire criminal history—unleashes wars and genocides, sowing death and terror across the world, has labeled as a “terrorist” one of the most important leaders of the dignified and solidarity-driven Cuban Revolution: Raúl Castro.”
