Communist Party of Britain to join mass anti-fascist rally

On 4 October 1936, more than 100,000 working-class people, including Jewish residents, Irish dockers and trade unionists, stood together in East London. They built barricades, resisted 7,000 police officers and forced Oswald Mosley’s fascist Blackshirts to turn back. Ninety years later, their message still rings out: “They Shall Not Pass.”

This anniversary is more than a commemoration. Fascism, racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia are once again on the rise. The forces seeking to divide us may take different forms, but the lesson of Cable Street remains the same. Fascism must be confronted, not simply debated.

Our message is clear:

🚫 They shall not pass.  

🚫 They will not pass.

🚫 No to antisemitism.

🚫 No to Islamophobia.

An attack on one community is an attack on us all. In 1936, Jewish and Muslim working-class people stood alongside trade unionists and neighbours. That same solidarity across communities is how we will defeat the far right today.

Join us for a major march and rally honouring the legacy of Cable Street. We will march alongside a broad coalition of trade unions, Jewish and Muslim community groups, anti-racist campaigns, faith groups, tenants’ unions and labour movement organisations from across the country. Unity made Cable Street victorious, and we need that unity now.

Cable Street is not only part of our history. Its spirit lives on in every community that stands organised and united against hate. They shall not pass. They will not pass. Not now. Not ever.
