A massive mobilization took place on Friday, in Elefsina following a call by the Northwest Attica Organizations of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), giving a militant response to the attack by fascists that occurred in the city against an athlete for his anti-fascist action.
Communist Party of Greece responds to fascist attack
According to 902.gr, the 32-year-old athlete's family was present at the gathering. Also present were Nikos Abatielos , member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece and member of parliament for the KKE, and Christos Tsokanis, member of parliament for Western Attica for the KKE. Also present was Giorgos Tatsis , member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece.
"We are here today, giving a first response to the brazen fascists who dared to come out of their holes and attack an athlete from our city, known for his anti-fascist action. And we will be there every day if necessary on the streets and neighborhoods of Elefsina, in workplaces and schools. Our response is loud and clear: Fascists, back to your holes!", noted Vangelis Gkinis , a member of the KKE's Northwestern Attica Branch Office, from the podium of the rally.
He went on to say, "Furthermore, in his speech he called for "to strengthen unions and associations. To strengthen collective action. To not compromise with barbarity. Because the real answer to fascism is not fear and silence. It is organization and struggle.
From this very platform, we call on every honest worker, every young man and woman, every person who does not compromise. To become a protagonist. To not wait for saviors. To strengthen the workers'-people's movement. To join the KKE in the daily struggles on every front.
Only a determined people can definitively isolate the fascists and send them where they belong, to the dustbin of history. Only a people who believe in their power can pave the way for a society without exploitation of man by man. This is the path that our people deserve. With faith in the power of the working class. With trust in the new generation. With optimism. With their heads held high.
Not in Eleusis, not anywhere! Blockade against fascists in every neighborhood!
Now with the KKE to defeat the system that gives birth to them!"
A march followed through the streets of Elefsina with slogans resounding loudly such as "enemies of the workers, ruffians on strikes - minions of the bosses and criminals" and "fascism only dies from the people, we will forever step on the snake's neck!"
