Communist Party of Venezuela protests for workers' rights

Communist Party of Venezuela mobilised for workers' demands

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) was part of a mobilisation on 1 October outside the headquarters of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) in La Campiña, Caracas. The protest brought together oil workers, retired workers, trade-union activists and several left-wing and popular organisations.

The mobilisation focused on workers' demands in the oil industry, particularly the expiration of the collective agreement for petroleum workers without a new agreement being negotiated. Participants also protested against agreements involving Venezuela's oil resources and what they described as the transfer of national resources to foreign corporations. The action had been announced as a continuation of the anti-imperialist mobilisation held on 17 September, in which the PCV also participated.

At the same time, the broader protest wave during the last week has not been primarily organised by the PCV. On 28 September, demonstrations were reported in several Venezuelan states over wages, electricity shortages, elections and political prisoners. On 30 September, at least 20 protests over prolonged power cuts were reported across six states. These mobilisations involved workers, trade unions, residents and other groups, but the sources I found do not establish that the PCV organised them as a nationwide campaign.
