CP Israel warning on danger to upcoming elections

Member of the Israeli parliament Ofer Cassif from Hadash and Communist Party of Israel, warned that the government is laying the groundwork for a systematic obstruction of the upcoming elections for the 26th Knesset.

On Monday, MK Ofer Cassif presented a motion of no confidence in the government to the Knesset plenum, on behalf of the Joint List and the United Arab List, regarding the imminent danger to the upcoming elections and the political arrests targeting the leadership of the Arab community.

According to Al-Ittihad, Cassif warned that the government is laying the groundwork for a systematic obstruction of the upcoming elections for the 26th Knesset. He said “For years, the government of the massacre has been working to undermine the foundations of the system of government, by attempting to paralyze the courts and dismantle the Bar Association; making political appointments; Kahanist domination of the police; systematic incitement against the media and independent journalists; enacting legislation to strengthen the channels and mouthpieces of the authorities; and normalizing violence against its opponents, including against members of the Knesset.”

Cassif also addressed the political arrest of the head of the Joint List, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and former head of the High Follow-Up Committee, Mohammad Barakeh, on fabricated charges of incitement to terrorism, saying: "Why did Netanyahu suddenly remember, on the eve of the elections, a speech from 2022 by the Palestinian leader in Israel? Because he is entering these elections weak and burdened by setbacks." He added, warning: "But the government and the police are not targeting Barakeh alone. The entire Arab community is being targeted, literally and figuratively, as an integral part of the plan to rig the election results."

Cassif called on the Arab and Jewish citizens, saying: “Netanyahu wants you to despair; Ben-Gvir wants you to be afraid; and Smotrich wants you to surrender. Do not surrender to them! Go out and vote en masse for peace, equality, democracy, and social justice for all.”

Former chairman of Hadash and MK Mohammad Barakeh was arrested last week for allegedly "inciting terrorism" during a public rally. Barakeh is an experienced representative of Hadash, serving as MK from 1999 to 2015. He was later released on bail.
