The Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemned the repression of factory workers in the industrial belt of Delhi NCR, accusing authorities in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh of deploying police force instead of addressing workers’ demands.
CPI (Marxist) condemns repression of workers
The Party stated that workers had been engaged in a prolonged struggle for wage increases and statutory benefits, which were met with arrests, intimidation, and the filing of cases against union leaders.
The statement highlighted reports of police raids in workers’ villages, mass detentions, and violence, with families reportedly left without information on those arrested. It also pointed to the house arrest of trade union figures, including leaders associated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, as part of a broader attempt to suppress organised labour activity.
In this context, CPI(M) linked the unrest to wider discontent among workers across India, driven by poor conditions, stagnant wages, and the erosion of labour rights. It expressed full solidarity with the ongoing struggles, calling for the immediate release of detained workers, withdrawal of charges, and a shift toward dialogue to address their demands.
