CPI(M) letter expresses disagreement with Congress Party

CPI(M) expresses disagreement with baseless allegations

Communist Party of India (Marxist) sent a letter to Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ahead of INDIA bloc meeting expressing strong disagreement with the baseless allegations and accusations levelled against CPI(M) by Congress national leaders during the Kerala Assembly election campaign.

In the letter signed by M.A. Baby, General Secretary of CPI(M), it was stated that such a stance by the Congress weakened opposition unity and the Congress leadership must clearly state its position on this issue.

According to the letter, Congress leaders repeatedly alleged that CPI(M) and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had reached a secret understanding. They also suggested that senior CPI(M) leader and former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had a deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arguing that otherwise he would have been investigated or arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.

The letter states that these accusations were not isolated campaign remarks but formed a central part of the Congress campaign. It notes that senior Congress figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Kharge himself, repeated such allegations.

CPI(M) argues that these claims undermine the very basis of the INDIA alliance, which was created as a broad platform to oppose the BJP despite ideological differences among its member parties. The letter stresses that CPI(M) has consistently worked to strengthen opposition unity since the alliance's formation in 2023 and rejects allegations of collaboration with the BJP as false and damaging.

The document also highlights CPI(M)'s long-standing conflict with the RSS-BJP in Kerala, noting that many of its members have lost their lives in political violence. It further points to the absence of communal riots during the decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule in Kerala as evidence of the party's commitment to secularism and communal harmony.

The letter specifically criticizes Rahul Gandhi for repeatedly calling for Enforcement Directorate action against Pinarayi Vijayan. CPI(M) questions whether such demands can be considered anti-BJP politics or whether they effectively encourage the Modi government to take punitive action against another opposition leader.

The party urges the Congress leadership to clarify its position and address what it describes as disruptive actions that threaten opposition unity. At the same time, CPI(M) reaffirms its commitment to cooperating with the INDIA bloc and other opposition parties in Parliament to oppose what it characterizes as the Modi government's authoritarian, communal, and anti-people policies.

The letter concludes by stating that despite attacks and distortions directed against it, CPI(M) will continue to participate in a united opposition struggle against the BJP-led government.
