With the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel DÃaz-Canel Bermúdez, the inauguration of the IV Continental Assembly of the ALBA Movements: For Socialism 100 Years Walking with Fidel took place at the Varona Convention Center of the University of Havana, which will be held until August 8 in the Cuban capital.
Cuba hosts Continental Assembly of ALBA Movements
According to Granma, nearly 200 participants, including 150 foreign delegates from the United States, Canada, Spain, China, Burkina Faso, Latin America and the Caribbean, representing the International Peoples' Assembly, will hold dialogue sessions on regional integration, anti-imperialism, solidarity with Cuba in the face of increasing pressure from the US government, and shared experiences of struggle.
Also participating in the opening of the event were members of the Political Bureau Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, Bruno RodrÃguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, among other leaders of the Party and the Government, youth and mass organizations, and leaders of the Cuban chapter of social movements.
Gerardo González Nordelo, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and national coordinator of the CDR, gave the opening remarks at the event, in which he denounced the oil blockade imposed by the United States and the new imperial ideological onslaught against the peoples of America.
The theoretical sessions began with the panels: Main Features, Challenges, and Alternatives to the Current Imperialist Offensive on the Global South and Cuba in Today's Regional and Global Context: Challenges and Defense of the Revolution. Discussions also included the situation of the Palestinian people and the rise of paramilitarism in Africa.
As part of the event's program of activities, participants will visit the Oncology Hospital and the 10 de Octubre Children's Home, an exchange that will surely demonstrate the resilience of the Cuban people and their institutions amidst a context of economic and political aggression.
Alba Movimientos, formally called the Continental Articulation of Social and Popular Movements, constitutes a platform that brings together more than 400 organizations from 25 countries around a project of unity and integration of Our America from an emancipatory perspective created by and for the people.
The platform operates in dialogue and integrative synergies with other networks, platforms, and organizations of continental and global reach. It seeks to promote a popular counteroffensive that represents the full richness and diversity of the struggle for the construction of socialism.
