German Communist Party and Youth protest NATO missiles

More than 2000 people participated in a mass rally in Wiesbaden against the deployment of intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) in Germany, organised by the German Communist Party (DKP), Socialist German Worker Youth (SDAJ) and various peace organisations.

The demonstration was organised as part of the “Capable of Peace, Not First Strike. For a Europe Without Intermediate-Range Weapons!” campaign. The enthusiastic participation of the youth in the mass rally further showed the unpopularity of militarism and especially of the reintroduction of military service according to the organisers of the event. Members of SDAJ further gave speeches regarding their experiences during the school strike against conscription. Slogans of “Never again with conscription!” and “The rich want war, the youth want a future!” were also heard during the rally. The U.S. campaign to starve Cuba was also condemned, as were the social cuts as well as explicit militarisation including the adoption of a military strategy by the German government.
