Iraqi Communist Party calls for mass demonstration against impoverishment and austerity
The Iraqi Communist Party has called upon the Iraqi people to participate widely in a peaceful demonstration on Sunday, October 25, 2026, demanding a dignified life, guaranteed rights and freedoms, and a fundamental change in the country’s political and economic approach.
Under the slogan “We Want a Homeland That Ensures a Decent Life and Guarantees Rights and Freedoms,” the party denounced the policies of impoverishment and starvation, accusing the ruling powers of protecting the privileges of the powerful while forcing ordinary citizens to bear the costs of their failures.
The party stressed that huge numbers of Iraqis are suffering from unemployment and poverty, with workers, employees, retirees, farmers, graduates, the unemployed, and people with limited incomes bearing the devastating consequences of the rising dollar exchange rate and the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar. These developments have driven up prices, eroded wages, and further weakened the purchasing power of the population.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Communist Party condemned the ruling powers for continuing to share power, establish new ministries and positions, and expand their privileges while the people struggle to secure their basic livelihoods.
“The people are not responsible for the successive crises,” the party declared, rejecting the burden being placed on citizens for the corruption of the authorities and the failure of their policies.
The Iraqi Communist Party called for broad participation in the October 25 demonstration, affirming the need to reject the policies that impoverish the people and demand a political and economic course that serves the interests of the population rather than those of the ruling elite.
