The Iraqi Communist Party has issued an urgent national appeal to confront the dangers threatening Iraq and to protect its people and sovereignty.
Iraqi Communist Party issues a 3-point appeal to the people
In the context of an American-Zionist initiative to redraw the map of the region according to the perspective of the “New Middle East,” ICP is defining a very dangerous historical turning point. This project aims to impose political and economic hegemony over its countries, which poses a threat to Iraq's sovereignty, national unity, and future. Intractable internal crises are intertwined with turbulent regional transformations.
The Iraqi state is being forced to a genuine existential test by the continuing dangerous political deadlock, the paralysis of state institutions, the multiplicity of security and military decision-making centers, and the national will being held hostage to narrow, intertwined internal and external factional interests imposed by the influential forces in the country. Additionally, the exacerbation of security and economic challenges, the expansion of regional conflict and military aggression, and the general Iraqi population are all at risk of sliding into the furnace of conflicts in which they have no interest, further destruction and instability, and an economic collapse for which the people will pay the heaviest price.
While condemning the American-Zionist aggression and fulfilling its national and historical duty, the Iraqi Communist Party launches an urgent national appeal to the Iraqi people, as well as to the country's democratic, social, trade union, and professional political forces and organizations, to save Iraq and its sovereignty, protect the country's inclusive national identity, stop the state from falling apart, and stop the country from being pushed into economic collapse and further disintegration, fragmentation, and tearing apart of its national fabric. They also call for urgent practical steps and requirements that stop the decline and clear a clear national path to face the growing dangers.
The Communist Party presents the following points as urgent national priorities that must be addressed immediately:
The first point is preserving Iraq's sovereignty, security, and interests.
“There is no protection for Iraq, no preservation of its national sovereignty, and no securing of the interests of its people without the state regaining full authority over security and military decisions and ending all forms of multiple centers of power and weapons outside its institutions.”
The second point is to stop the economic decline.
“Addressing the dangers facing Iraq due to the disruption of a significant portion of oil exports and the resulting pressure on public finances is inseparable from addressing the deep economic fragility and the worsening living crisis produced by the economic and financial policies followed, the rentier economy, corruption, and looting.”
The third point is to break the political deadlock—towards forming a national transitional government.
“The urgent priority is to move towards forming a national transitional government with clear and specific tasks and within a declared time frame, a government that ends the approach of quotas, power-sharing, and spoils; firmly confronts corruption; and undertakes the implementation of a national rescue program that focuses on addressing urgent issues in security, the economy, and services and paves the way for deeper structural reforms, while simultaneously working to create the political and legal environment for holding fair early elections that guarantee equal opportunities and the broadest popular participation.”
The Iraqi Communist Party reaffirms that “it will work without hesitation with all the vital forces in society and will be open to dialogue and meetings with various concerned forces and parties, from its independent position and opposition to the current government's approach, to place everyone before their national responsibilities and to pressure for the imposition of urgent rescue requirements in defense of the people, the sovereignty of Iraq, and the right of Iraqis to be rid of the system of quotas, corruption, political sectarianism, and uncontrolled weapons and to build the state based on citizenship, democracy, and social justice.”
