Iraqi Communist Party on latest corruption investigation
Early Sunday morning, the Integrity Commission and security forces carried out a campaign of arrests targeting a number of MPs and officials, for the purpose of investigating them in corruption cases attributed to them.
The corruption that has taken root in our country for two decades is a product of sectarian power-sharing and one of its pillars, indeed it is the other face of it in plundering our country’s wealth and resources.
The continuation of this campaign, which has been welcomed by the public, requires that it be translated into real action that recovers the looted funds, cuts off the path of those who loot the people’s money and brings them to justice, both big and small, so that they can be tried, as well as taking appropriate legal measures against their supporters and those who cover for them.
It must also be emphasized that the campaign should continue to include other corruption networks without discrimination or selectivity, and that it should be accompanied by a package of measures aimed at dismantling the approach of sharing the state on a sectarian and ethnic basis and abolishing the existence of economic offices of political parties and blocs, and that emphasis should be placed on respecting the mechanisms and controls of government contracting and adopting transparency in the preparation and spending of budgets, especially large contracts.
In this regard, the Iraqi Communist Party emphasizes the importance of not stopping at certain limits, but rather expanding to include all corrupt individuals, with the importance of disclosing the data in the available investigations to the public, and holding accountable and revealing the truth in accordance with the law and fair judiciary without discrimination, so that the people can see who has plundered their wealth.
