KKE on political stance towards elections

KKE calls for stronger anti-system opposition ahead of Greek elections

Communist of Greece Party (KKE) has issued a wide-ranging political assessment ahead of the country's next parliamentary elections, arguing that growing economic pressures, political scandals, and international tensions are exposing deep contradictions within the Greek political system and creating conditions for increased popular discontent.

According to the KKE, the governing New Democracy (ND) is facing mounting difficulties due to declining support among workers and sections of the middle class, internal disagreements, and criticism over its handling of scandals and foreign policy. The party points to public interventions by former prime ministers and growing debate over the future leadership of ND as evidence of instability within the ruling camp.

The report also highlights ongoing realignments across the Greek opposition. It argues that social-democratic forces, including PASOK, SYRIZA, and the newly formed political movement associated with former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, are attempting to reposition themselves ahead of future elections. However, the KKE contends that these parties ultimately share the same strategic orientation as the government despite their public disagreements.

The party further warns of the re-emergence of far-right and nationalist forces, citing efforts to reorganize fascist and neo-Nazi groups, particularly among younger people. It argues that sections of the Greek establishment continue to view such forces as potential political reserves during periods of social and political instability.

A central theme of the KKE document is its rejection of what it calls the false dilemma between "governability" and "political change." The party argues that both the government and mainstream opposition parties are attempting to channel public dissatisfaction into safe electoral alternatives while preserving the existing economic and political system. It claims that major parties share common commitments to the European Union, NATO, and the current economic model.

The KKE also sharply criticizes Greece's involvement in NATO and broader Western security arrangements, arguing that these policies expose the country to military risks while burdening citizens with economic costs. The party advocates disengagement from what it describes as imperialist conflicts and calls for increased wages, stronger labor protections, expanded public services, affordable housing, and reduced taxation on working people.

Presenting itself as the only genuine opposition force, the KKE argues that meaningful change cannot come from a simple change of government but requires a broader challenge to capitalist power. It reiterates its long-standing position against participating in or supporting governments operating within the existing economic framework and instead calls for a stronger workers' movement and greater support for communist politics.

Looking ahead to elections expected by spring 2027, the party says the coming campaign will be marked by efforts to promote political stability and contain anti-establishment sentiment. The KKE argues that growing social dissatisfaction should be transformed into organized political action and electoral support for the party, which it describes as the only force capable of challenging both the government and the broader political and economic system.
