KSČM protests Sudeten German Landsmannschaft Congress

Several thousand opponents of the Sudeten German congress gathered in central Brno on 23 May to protest against the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft Congress, the first-ever holding of the event in Czechia. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia was an active part of the rally and built a “Silent Barricade”, a symbolic barricade out of cardboard boxes.

The cardboard boxes forming the barricade were covered with historical photographs to commemorate the victims of World War II, and also maps of the Sudetenland, the Czechoslovak border regions where the German population prevailed before WW2.

MEP Kateřina Konečná said that "We know very well who liberated us from German occupation, fascism, Nazism and who caused the death of 360,000 Czech and Slovak citizens by unleashing World War II. The Sudeten Germans never gave up their property claims against the Czechs. It is incomprehensible why the President of the Czech Republic did not open the payment of war reparations from Germany to the Czech Republic in the amount of CZK 20 trillion during negotiations with them."

Another speaker said that, anyone who spoke of the suffering of the Sudeten Germans must also speak of the suffering of the Czechs, the Roma, the partisans and all the victims of the Nazi terror.
