The Lebanese Communist Party (LCP) continued its recent campaign on the 44th anniversary of the founding of the Lebanese National Resistance Front (Jammoul).
Lebanese Communist Party commemorates anniversary of Jammoul
On 25 September, the Beirut branch of the party had scheduled a discussion at the party's Al-Nidaa centre in Watawat, with researcher Moufied Kteish, under the title “The National Democratic Project: A Lever for Getting Lebanon Out of the Crisis.” The meeting was organised as part of the anniversary programme.
This follows the party's larger September mobilisation around Jammoul. In Sidon, LCP General Secretary Hanna Gharib spoke at the main anniversary event on 16 September, where he linked the history of the national resistance to current questions of occupation, displaced people, reconstruction and social conditions.
Within the scope of the September mobilisation, at the invitation of the Aley branch and the Majdalia organization of the Lebanese Communist Party, and on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the founding of the Lebanese National Resistance Front, a memorial service was held for the late comrade and fighter Wahbi Subh “Abu al-Ruz” in the public hall of Majdalia. The event was attended by a large crowd, representatives of political forces and parties, social organizations, and a multitude of comrades and friends.
Following a welcoming address by Comrade William Subh, Comrade Havana Subh delivered a speech on behalf of the Majdalia branch of the party, summarizing the deceased's military and union career and emphasizing his role as a man of peace alongside his resistance struggle. Comrade Dr. Tawfiq Halwani, who had accompanied the resistance fighters as both a doctor and an activist, also delivered a speech on behalf of his comrades in the struggle. In his speech, he stressed the pivotal role of the Resistance Front and its national significance, and praised Abu al-Ruz's virtues throughout his long career. The speeches and tributes highlighted the important role played by "Umm al-Ruz" in a long struggle.
A speech was also given by the mayor of Majdaliya, Louay Matar, who praised the virtues and struggles of the deceased comrade. In his speech, he also discussed the history of the Lebanese National Resistance Front and the National Movement, paying tribute to the martyrs and departed figures George Hawi, Mohsen Ibrahim, and Kamal Jumblatt.
The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Communist Party, Comrade Hanna Gharib, concluded with a speech in which he paid tribute to the late Comrade “Abu al-Ruz,” saying: “We come today to Majdaliya, this generous and steadfast town, to salute and honor a dear comrade, a fighter and resistance member, Comrade Wahbi Subh, “Abu al-Ruz.” In his speech, he also highlighted the distinctiveness of the Lebanese National Resistance Front, linking the mission of change with liberation, a principle Abu al-Ruz embodied throughout his life.
The speech addressed the current political, economic, and security situation in Lebanon and the region, emphasizing that these issues are inseparable, from resisting the occupation in the South to building a resistant nation where all its citizens bear the responsibility of liberation through mandatory military service, to achieving social justice by building a nation that guarantees the rights of workers, employees, and all those harmed by the prevailing authoritarian policies.
Following the speeches, the attendees unveiled the memorial plaque of Comrade “Abu al-Ruz,” and several comrades and friends offered their testimonies.
