People's Party: Handing over Mahmoud Al-Adra to French authorities is a serious violation of Palestinian Basic Law

The Palestinian People’s Party condemned the Palestinian Authority’s handover of citizen Mahmoud Al-Adra, known as Hisham Harb, to the French authorities, stressing that the move constitutes a clear and explicit violation of Article 28 of the Palestinian Basic Law, which prohibits the handover of any Palestinian to a foreign entity under any circumstances.

The party said in a statement that the measure "cannot be justified under any legal or political pretext, as it constitutes a direct violation of the principle of national sovereignty, a serious transgression of the Palestinian legal system, and opens the door to a precedent that affects the rights of citizens and their legal protection within their homeland."

The party pointed to the seriousness of this precedent, stressing that it would have been more appropriate to deal with this issue within the national judicial frameworks, in a way that preserves the dignity of the Palestinian citizen and his legal rights, rather than yielding to external pressures.

The party warned against the continuation of this approach, due to its repercussions on confidence in the Palestinian legal system and on the concept of protection that the authority is supposed to provide to its people.
