South African Communist Party launces Manifesto for local elections

South African Communist Party launches Manifesto

South African Communist Party (SACP) celebrated its 105th anniversary and launched the Historic Manifesto of the SACP, delivered by General Secretary Comrade Solly Mapaila at TUT, Soshanguve Campus.

The Manifesto has its slogan, "Build People's Power Where We Live: For the right to work, water, electricity, roads, land and safety for all!"

The Manifesto is launched as the backbone of the 2026 local election campaign. In his speech the Mapaila outlined the key pillars and priorities of the Manifesto intended to fix and turn around the local government.

The Manifesto has listed six priorities:

  • Reliable public services, preventative maintenance and prompt repairs
  • Decent work and sustainable livelihoods where people live
  • Land, homes and food for social need, not private profit
  • Safe, caring and healthy communities
  • Municipalities free from tender corruption and capture
  • Councillors who answer to the people; and people who have a real say
