The Political Bureau of the Iraqi Communist Party issued the following statement entitled "The Iraqi Communist Party condemns any violation of Iraqi sovereignty."
Iraqi CP condemns US-Saudi attacks on Iraq
We are following with great concern the American-Saudi air bombardment that targeted Iraqi territory at dawn today, Wednesday, and the resulting martyrs and injuries among our people in the Popular Mobilization Forces.
While we condemn the attack and any targeting, from any party, of our country’s territory, sovereignty, institutions and facilities, we demand that the Iraqi government, political parties and all relevant parties work diligently to remove all pretexts that are exploited to violate the country’s sovereignty and endanger its security and the safety of its citizens.
These developments confirm, once again, that the time has come to consolidate the state’s monopoly – through its constitutional institutions – over the decision of war and peace, and to proceed effectively with restricting weapons to its hands, in a way that strengthens Iraq’s sovereignty, keeps it away from the dangers of sliding into regional conflicts, and prevents it from becoming an arena for settling scores between conflicting powers.
The sovereignty of Iraq and the sanctity of the blood of its sons and daughters should not, under any circumstances, be subject to political bargaining or narrow calculations. Rather, the supreme national interest should remain the foundation upon which all positions and policies are built.
What is required today is swift and responsible action, prioritizing dialogue, and intensifying political and diplomatic efforts to contain the escalation and prevent its expansion, and to work towards establishing peace, security, and stability in Iraq and the region, in a way that preserves the interests of its peoples and their right to live in safety.
