CP of India Condemns Violence Against Students in Ranchi

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on the police violence against students, who were protesting government policies in Ranchi.

The Communist Party of India strongly condemns the use of force against students and JPSC-JSSC aspirants protesting in Ranchi. The demands raised by the students are genuine and concern their examinations, recruitment and future. Young people who have gathered peacefully to seek justice and accountability cannot be treated as a law and order problem. The use of water cannons, tear gas and lathi charge against protesting students is unacceptable and only deepens their sense of grievance.

The Jharkhand government must immediately stop the use of force and create conditions for meaningful engagement with the protesting students. Their representatives should be invited for dialogue, their grievances heard patiently, and concrete steps taken to address their legitimate demands. In a democracy, disagreement cannot be answered with barricades and police action. Engagement and dialogue, not violence, must be the government’s response to students demanding justice.

What happened?

Students protesting against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) have called for a march to the Jharkhand Assembly.

The protest entered its 16th day on Sunday, with six students currently on hunger strike. The protesters have alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and claimed that police are forcibly stopping hundreds of students travelling to Ranchi from different parts of Jharkhand.
