CPI(M) concludes Kerala State Committee meeting with massive rally
A total of 307 delegates, including State Committee members, District Secretariat members, and elected office-bearers of the Party’s class and mass organisations, participated in the meeting. In a bid to rejuvenate the party, a major organisational reshuffle was announced. The extended meeting elected P Jayarajan, MB Rajesh and V Sivankutty as new members of the CPI(M) State Secretariat, and John Brittas joined as an invitee. Susan Kody was inducted into the State Committee, while Adarsh M Saji, PS Sanjeev, V Sivaprasad, M Vijin, Jaick C Thomas, N Sukanya, OS Ambika, Subaida Issac and Prabhavarma will join as invitees. The changes also gave greater space to younger leaders and women, with nine new permanent invitees, including leaders from the SFI and DYFI.
The meeting signaled the end of intense internal deliberations and the beginning of a public-facing corrective phase.
The induction of new leaders and the emphasis on bringing in younger leaders and more women are attempts to infuse new energy and address organisational weaknesses identified in internal reviews.
The meeting also passed a resolution to legally and politically resist a "politically motivated witch-hunt" by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) targeting Pinarayi Vijayan and others. This is a move to rally the party around its leadership in the face of external pressure.
CPI(M) lost the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections by a wide margin. The Party had been in power in Kerala for a long time.
