While a de facto state of emergency continues in the capital city of Turkey due to the upcoming NATO summit, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) marched to Kızılay Square, centre of Ankara, with the slogan “Down with imperialism, down with NATO!”
The Irish revolutionary socialist leader James Connoly was commemorated by the Communist Party of Ireland at the 110th anniversary of his death. He was executed for his leading role in the 1916 Easter Uprising against British rule in Ireland. The commemoration took place at the Arbour Hill military cemetery, where his body was placed, without rite or coffin, with 13 of his comrades in a common grave. He remains an important figure for the Irish labour and socialist movement.

A miners' strike, which ended in a victory for the miners, was on the headlines for several weeks in Turkey. The mining sector, which is mostly privatised, has bad working conditions, low wages and is prone to accidents. The Communist Party of Turkey calls for the nationalisation of all mines in the country.
